Dial 9-1-1 for Emergencies

If you have an urgent need for police, fire or medical, dial 9-1-1.

If not, call the Police non-emergency telephone number listed in the blue pages of your telephone directory (503) 629-0111

Smoke Alarms Save Lives - Actually, working smoke alarms save lives. Even electrically wired smoke alarms need to have fresh batteries if your power goes off. Change the batteries every six months when you change your clocks for daylight savings time.

If you need help checking your smoke alarm, call the Hillsboro Fire Department.

Using Family Radios For Emergencies

Jackson School Neighborhood has a number of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members living within our boundaries. They have established a communication system in case of a major disaster. If one were to affect our neighborhood, you could tune into Channel 4 on FRS (Family Radio Service) radios and listen for further instructions or request help. This would be like a big conference call including the whole neighborhood, and could be very effective and informative. Hillsboro City CERT will be on FRS Channel 9.   For more information about Hillsboro CERT, go to www.hillsborocert.org

Community Emergency Response Team

The Hillsboro Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is about being prepared in the wake of a disaster. A severe wind storm, heavy ice or snow, or even an earthquake could lead to the loss of power, communications or other vital utilities.

The city of Hillsboro provides us with quality emergency fire and medical services.  In the wake of a disaster, however, they may be unavailable due to debris and road damage, plus an overwhelming need for emergency response in all areas of the city. That means, in the event of a disaster, we may have to depend on ourselves and our neighbors for some period of time.

The mission for Hillsboro CERT is to lessen the impact of disasters on our Hillsboro community through preparedness and training. Hillsboro CERT provides basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills that would improve your ability to survive until assistance arrives. The goal of the CERT program is to provide for community self-sufficiency during the first 72 hours after a disaster. In addition to this training, the CERT program can provide handbooks, preparedness flyers, safety net articles, safety tips and a newsletter.

Jackson School has a CERT coordinator and several trained CERT members in the area, but we continue to educate and expand our group.

For more information about the JSHOA CERT program, contact our CERT Coordinator Barbara Brunson at lowell@vanilla.rain.com. For additional information about Hillsboro CERT, go to www.hillsborocert.org
